SanitizerJust wondering what everyone out there uses for sanitizing/sterilizing. I have always used a chlorine bleach solution. I think the rate for dilution is 5 mL of 5% bleach per litre. »

starsan
Hi
Southside Winning Wines Plus here!
Starsan will be in -stock in a few weeks time, an order has been placed for 8oz and 32 oz containers.
Anything else you need?
Cheers!
Starsan!
So glad to hear that you are getting starsan in. It's easily my favourite sanitizer. Don't fear the foam! Use Reverse Osmosis water (mix a full 5 gallons) and it will last for months! Use a spray bottle for sanitizing small things (or large) like bottling wands, thiefs, hydrometers, carboy caps...
No more iodophor!
(Just don't let the concentrated Starsan sit on its side in your garage, leaking out and eating into the concrete over the winter).
There is a homebrew store in
There is a homebrew store in Sherwood Park that has sponsored the ABC in the past - they carried it. Not sure if they still do. I think it's Wine Kitz - 2 Athabascan Ave. Give them a call & ask. 417-7380.
Bleach?
If you're going to use bleach, you need to lower the pH to make it a truly effective sanitizer. Check out this episode of Basic Brewing Radio:

I know that Lendrum Winning Wines Plus carries iodophor, that is also a no-rinse sanitizer.

I use StarSan, and have been for many years. I have had no issues with it and enjoy using it. I have used bleach, didn't like the amount of rinsing. I have also used iodophor, also didn't like the rinsing and staining. With StarSan, you have a quick contact time, no rinse, and easy of use. Just my 2 cents.
star san availability
Any suggestions where I can get some. The closest place I could find on the internet is Dan's Homebrewing Supplies in Vancouver.
re: star san availability
I usually order my from B3 on the internet out of the states. Could try Dan's though or Canadian homebrew supplies in Ontario, here's a link http://www.homebrew-supplies.ca/viartshop/products.php?category_id=52
