We will be visiting the Rahr malting plant in Alix for a tour. This is an interesting tour for both brewers and non-brewers alike - plant personnel take us through the whole process from start to finish and you end up with a good idea of what really goes on in the process of creating malted grains. Please contact Sean if you are interested in attending no later than Tuesday Oct. 11. There is no cost to attend aside from getting yourself there and back again (unless you are also looking to purchase malt). Guests are welcome to attend even if they are not members of the guild - we just need to be able to give the people at Rahr an accurate number of attendees so they know how many people to have in on the weekend to show us around.

In addition to the tour, we also purchase bulk grain directly from the plant. The cost this year is $30 each for a 25 kg. sack of pale 2-row malt, and $40 each for a 25 kg. sack of wheat malt. If you ware interested in getting malt, please also let Sean know by Oct. 11. Since Rahr usually deals with larger quantities than 25 kg. sacks they don't stock these items and must hand bag each one for us, so they need some advance notice.

We will meet at Alley Kat brewery parking lot so that we can leave by 8 AM as the drive takes approximately 2 hours. Paul has agreed to take us through at around 10AM and the tour usually takes about 2 hours. Afterwards we stop for a bite to eat in Alix before heading home.

Please consider bringing some beer or other gift which we can donate to the people at Rahr for taking time out of their weekend to show us through their facility.
