Hops, locally grownMy uncle has a small organic farms south of Edmonton. I got him interested in cultivating Hops. Any ideas as to what varieties he should grow? What types of hops is the demand out there for? I suggested to him to check out the Noble varieties as they can be used for both bittering and aroma. What are your thoughts? Would anyone be interested in buying from him once he got the production rolling? »

Hops
I would be interested. My quantities might be small but I would gladly support a local producer. Cascade, Willamette, fuggles, mt. hood, would be great for a start.
Thanks for poasting this.

Just make sure you help him
Just make sure you help him research it thoroughly, would hate to see him plant a crop then have it get devastated by aphids and what not. Maybe you could rally enough club members to make a large purchase.

Your best bet would be
Your best bet would be contacting Amber's Brewing Co., as they were looking to make a 100-mile beer last I talked to the owner. The problem with homegrown bittering hops is that the AAU% is unknown. Flavour/Aroma hops are fine as they add very little in terms of bittering Alpha acids.
I want to get some hops
Hey its Kurt here. I want to get some american variety hops... Cascade will work. Columbus, centennial or AMARILLO would be best. Did anyone grow these? Can I get some rhizomes from anyone to grow here in sylvan? I need them ASAP
