2009 Aurora Brewing Challenge.

ABC 2009 Results

The Edmonton Homebrewers Guild is proud to present the winners of the 2009 Aurora Brewing Challenge

Sherbrooke Liquor Brewer of the Year Award

Brewer of the year 2009 will have the chance to brew one of their winning recipes with Alley Kat to be sold as a Sherbrooke exclusive beer. This is the second year Sherbrooke has sponsored this award. Last year, our own Mark Nesdoly won Brewer of the year and brewed his "Heat Seeker" - a coconut curry spiced beer. You still may be able to get your hands on some but only from Sherbrooke!

Recipe and details are subject to change slightly based on the needs and requirements of Alley Kat and Sherbrooke. However, Sherbrooke and Alley Kat do their best to replicate and accommodate the winning brewer.

Iron Brewer

Welcome to the greatest challenge of all! The Iron Brewer Competition is designed to test the skills of EHG brewers.
In order to win this challenge, brewers must be able to brew out of style to suit the tastes of unskilled judges. Also, brewers must collaborate and innovate in order to showcase a special ingredient.

COMPETITION RULES:

  1. Brewers must compete in pairs. At least one-half of the pair must be an EHG member.
  2. Register for the iron brewer by sending the names of both brewers to Greg by Saturday, March 7, 2009.
  3. Once you have been confirmed as a competitor, ingredients can be picked up at Winning Wines Plus (5718 111 street) free of charge. Open the bag of malt and hops and then select a strain of yeast from Andrew’s stash at the shop on a First come, first serve basis.
  4. The identity of a secret ingredient will be sent on Sunday March 8, 2009 by email. It is your responsibility to obtain the secret ingredient for the brew.
  5. Collaborate with your fellow brewer to create a recipe from the ingredients provided. You must showcase the secret ingredient in the beer. You cannot add any other ingredients of your own, however, you are not required to use all the ingredients provided.
  6. Bring three bottles of your Iron brew to the Aurora Brewing Challenge for Saturday May 30, 2009. One or both brewers must be present at 1:00 PM to present the iron beer to a panel of judges.
  7. The judges have been personally selected to judge the iron brew competition with the utmost bias and with absolutely no knowledge of beer styles! These individuals have very high expectations, but little to no experience judging beer.
  8. The winners of the iron brewer competition will receive a refractometer and a magnetic stir plate. As a pair of champion brewers, you can decide how these prizes will be split.

If you are interested in being a part of this competition contact Greg or use the signup form below.
May the yeast be with you.
